Dallas Begins Paid Sick Leave Enforcement

**Important Announcement: Injunction Issued**

The City of Dallas Earned Paid Sick Leave Ordinance was set to be enforced April 1, 2020. However, ESI/Employee Solutions LP, Hagan Law Group LLC, and the State of Texas sued the City of Dallas in the Eastern District of Texas and sought a temporary injunction to halt the implementation of the Ordinance. U.S. District Judge Sean D. Jordan granted the temporary injunction, temporarily postponing the Earned Paid Sick Time Ordinance implementation. Currently, the Ordinance will not be enforced. Any official changes will be communicated on this webpage, so please check this page frequently for updates.

Dallas begins paid sick leave enforcement

The City of Dallas Earned Paid Sick Time (Paid Sick Leave) Ordinance went into effect on August 1, 2019 for employers with 6 or more employees. The City of Dallas will not enforce the Ordinance, except for violations of the anti-retaliation provision, until April 1, 2020. No part of the Ordinance goes into effect for employers with 5 or fewer employees until August 1, 2021.

The Ordinance covers employees who work at least 80 hours within the geographic boundaries of the City of Dallas in a year. Review the City of Dallas boundary map to determine if a location is within the geographic boundaries of the City of Dallas.
