86th Legislative Activity

During my time in the 86th Texas Legislative Session, I had the opportunity to advocate for House District 102, through the filing of legislative bills. Not every legislative bill filed will pass, so it is important to continue to advocate for what is needed for our community and state. Below are my legislative activities while at the Capitol.

Primary & Joint Authorship

Primary - The legislator who files a bill and guides it through the legislative process (also called the primary author). The house of representatives allows only one primary author, the house member whose signature appears on the original measure and on the copies filed with the chief clerk.

Joint - In the house of representatives, a member authorized by the primary author of a bill or resolution to join in the authorship of the measure. Up to four joint authors may be designated per measure.

Co-author - A legislator authorized by the primary author of a bill or resolution to join in the authorship of the measure. A coauthor must be a member of the chamber in which the bill was filed.

Amendments - Any proposed alteration to a bill or resolution as it moves through the legislative process. Amendments to a measure may be proposed by members in their assigned committees or by any member of a chamber during that chamber’s second or third reading consideration of the measure.
